Fix “Power Calibration Error” While Burning CD/DVD

Power calibration error is a common issue that can occur when attempting to burn a CD or DVD. It typically occurs when the device is unable to calibrate the laser power required to burn the disc, resulting in the burn process failing.

Cause of the power calibration error

Power calibration errors can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty hardware, outdated firmware, incorrect settings, and problems with the power supply. They can also be caused by issues with the disc itself, such as scratches or dirt.

Basically what is happening is for the reason the CD/DVD burning software is unable to determine the Optimum Power Calibration rate (a small pre-burn test to determine optimal laser power for writing), resulting in a disk burn failure. There is no easy way to pinpoint the exact reason, so try all the possible fixes from top to bottom (easy to hard) and see what works for you.

It shows the following errors,

  • After the burning process is started it is showing something like a (60Ă—00000000…) error message in Nero.
  • “Power Calibration Error” and “Could not perform end of disc-at-once” error messages in Power2Go

Power calibration errors can be frustrating, as they can prevent you from successfully burning a disc. However, there are a number of steps you can try to fix the issue, such as cleaning the hardware, updating the firmware, and checking the cables. If the error persists, it may be caused by a faulty hardware component and may require the assistance of a professional technician to fix it.

Steps you can try to fix a power calibration error

Power calibration errors can be caused by a variety of issues, including faulty hardware, outdated firmware, or incorrect settings. Here are some steps you can try to fix a power calibration error:

  1. Check the power supply: Make sure that the power supply to your device is stable and sufficient. A weak or unstable power supply can cause power calibration errors.
  2. Update the firmware: If the firmware on your device is outdated, it can cause power calibration errors. Check to see if there are any firmware updates available and install them to see if that resolves the issue.
  3. Clean the hardware: Dust and debris can accumulate on the hardware, causing it to malfunction. Clean the hardware, particularly the CD or DVD drive, to see if that resolves the issue.
  4. Check the cables: Make sure that all the cables are securely connected and in good condition. A loose or damaged cable can cause power calibration errors.
  5. Change the burning speed: Try burning the disc at a slower speed to see if that resolves the issue.
  6. Disabling IMAPI Service works in most cases,
    • Launch Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.
    • Browse for “IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service“, Right-click on it, and select properties.
    • Change Startup Type to Disabled.
    • Click Apply and Reboot.

If you have tried these steps and the power calibration error persists, it may be caused by a faulty hardware component. In this case, you may need to seek the help of a professional technician to diagnose and fix the issue. Go ahead and get your burner laser lens tested & cleaned by a professional.
